Five Things To Consider When Hiring A Newborn Photographer

So you are expecting and thinking about hiring a maternity and/or newborn photographer.  Exciting!!  Do you know what “type” of photographer you are wanting?  If not, you are in the right place!  I have put together a list to help you find the perfect fit for you and your family!

 

1 – Safety
Have they taken any courses in safety?  Especially those working with newborns. Many poses are not as they seem and are achieved in post processing.  It’s important to hire some who is very comfortable handling and posing newborns.

 

2 – Style
Does their style match your vision?  Three things I strive for in every image are stunning, timeless, and artistic.

 

3 – What is Included?
When interviewing photographers, it’s important to know what is included and what you will need to provide.  Do they have a studio or will the session take place in your home?  Do they provide a client wardrobe or will you be providing the gowns?  Do they offer design and printing services or will you be responsible for researching where and what to print?

 

4 – Level of Experience
How long have they been a photographer and what is their specialty?  If a photographer specializes in newborns, they would most likely not be a good fit as a wedding photographer.

 

5 – Pricing
Pricing varies greatly based on the four things above and so much more.  A beginning photographer with little experience in lighting, safety, and posing will likely be a fourth of the price (or less) of someone with experience.  It is important to decide what is the most important to you!
